Animal Nutrition
Vegetable oils and fats and their by-products are used for animal feed in significant quantities. The main reason for feeding oils and tats to animals is their nutritional value, but there may also be technical reasons relating to feed production.
How we can support
Different animals have different needs with regards to the fatty acid composition of fat, and compound feed plants have a range of technical requirements for fat functionality, depending on their recipes and equipment. We can advise on the best kind of fat for your feed and production process.
Energy is very often a limiting factor in the feed of high-yielding farm animals such as cattle, pigs and poultry. For this reason, fat is mainly used in compound feeds where high energy content is required.
A compound feed is normally a mix of cereals (e.g. soybean meal or rapeseed meal), minerals, vitamins and one or two types of fat. Since the metabolisable energy in fat is 2-3 times higher than in most cereals and high protein materials, it increases the energy concentration of the blend significantly. If the right fat is fed to an animal, it efficiently improves the animal’s energy supply.
We can help you with
- Selecting the right fat or fats for your feed
- Supplying fats to reduce friction and dust during the manufacturing process
- Producing feed that can increase and prolong lactation in cows, and increase the milk fat content
